Neuromuscular disorders form an important part of neurology and almost 10% of neurological patients have neuromuscular disorders. A plethora of diseases come under this category. While some are genetic, others are immune mediated, infectious and related to metabolic, endocrine, toxic and deficiency states. In the last few years, there has been an explosion of knowledge in this field and a whole lot of new vistas are being explored in the area of diagnosis and therapy.
The Asian and Oceanian Myology center is dedicated to the dissipation of knowledge of muscle disorders and the annual meetings are held in various countries of the Asian oceanian region. The previous meeting in India was in 2009 and after 10 years, the annual meeting will be hosted by India again. This conference will give a very good opportunity for neurologists from India and nearby countries to update their knowledge of myopathies. For the Indian subcontinent, this area of neurology is deliberated only infrequently as compared to strokes, epilepsy etc. and in this context this meeting has much relevance.
